It’s usually one of two things when you’re burnout:
1) You’ve been overworked
2) Your expectations are too high
If you’re the former, take a break.
The problem is when it’s the latter and you take a break, only to realize it doesn’t work.
If you’re burnt out because you have high expectations, you have to stop being your harshest critic.
And of course, there’s a third type of burnout:
3) You hate what you do
Unfortunately, life got in the way and you have to do what you need to do in order to survive.
But I’m going to let you in on a little secret:
Most people think they are stuck in a job they hate because they have no choice. But they do have a choice, and it doesn’t need to be drastic or risky.
Interview for other jobs, or start a side hustle while working at your current job, and double down only when you see results.
You don’t have to resign right away. Take small steps and explore other options instead. Humans tend to resist change, so big changes are rarely the answer.
I had this conversation recently with a few friends who are feeling burnout, and if you are one of them, I hope this has been helpful for you.
